This painting was inspired by the memory of isolated roads,
protected and hidden by trees.
My husband's
sister lives outside of Natchez. We drive for miles through the woods to reach her home,
so my memory has many images of winding country roads bordered by trees which gently
filter the light. In the places where trees grow so closely together that no direct
sunlight reaches the path, I feel completely removed from reality. The cool blue light of
this painting captures the dreamy sensation that envelopes me as we travel the road to
Kathy's home overlooking a wonderful pond--the most peaceful place in any world, imaginary
or real.
I share those
memories through my paintings.
I will share the
technique I used to create this painting with the students in my new class at WAS-H this
fall.
